Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
And I fully well intend to live it as such!
It is now the day after catastrophe rained down (quite literally) on Joplin, MO which is not just another place where stuff happened... I have lived there before. I went to high school maybe 20 minutes away in nearby Carthage, MO, worked in Joplin for a few years and even rented an apartment over on B street for a year. I cannot help but wonder about what people were thinking and doing before their lives were crashed and torn to rubble.
In honor of all of them, and in honor of what they might have been thinking or doing, I write.
I will write about my day, I will write about my feelings, I will write about my plans and I will write about whatEVER the hell I want to write about whenever I feel like writing about THAT.
Here's to you, Joplin, always in my heart and always with my thoughts.
I thought about you and your Joplin Connection. Steve and I reminisced about the time we went up there to get Mikie's "chicken truck." I thought about that Honda dealership where you worked. I still have the Honda shirt you gave me (somewhere, packed away yet). I thought about that upstairs apartment where we visited you and about when Steve and Ol' Lonesome Tom went down to the snooker parlor to play snooker and Steve told Tom not to quit his day job, 'cause he'd never make it as a snooker player. I thought about strolling down whatever that street was, where the vacuum cleaner shop and the second-hand store was, and then we all went to Applebees for dinner before we came back.
